2 RV Guy's

Staying Healthy on the Road

We love to travel, that’s probably why we love RVing so much.  Being an RV’er we do face some challenges that we wouldn’t face if we just stayed home.  One challenge is that we expose ourselves to lots of germs because we meet great people, use dump stations, public toilets, etc.  Because we do meet so many new and wonderful people we are also coming into contact with more germs.  Therefore, we need to take some precautions to avoid picking up whatever is going around.

According to the experts most illness is spread from the hand to the eyes, mouth or nose.  Your hand is constantly touching things that can spread what someone else has to you.  Think about what you touch in the course of a day: countertops, telephones, doorknobs, banister, pens, car seats, pencil sharpeners, shopping carts, keyboards, steering wheel, handshakes, bathrooms, toys and shower rooms, just to name a few.  One of the most contaminated items is money.  Also, how many of you spray your hose bib with a chlorine to sanitize it before you hook up your hose – a good idea to clean it before you use it.

So if we are going to be constantly in contact with germs we are going to want to protect ourselves.  Conventional wisdom says wash your hands often and use hand sanitizers frequently.  My wife, the nurse, says these are necessary things to do to protect yourself.  She also tells me to use a hand sanitizer when I cannot wash my hands after touching something that may be contaminated.  I know I should be doing this but if I wash my hands often they get dried out, itchy and crack open.  Not what I want.  Also, I find the hand sanitizer to make things worse because hand sanitizers have alcohol in them.

The latest thing that I found is that washing and hand sanitizers only work for the time I am actually using them.  In other words, if I wash my hands they are clean only until I touch something else.  I thought I was doing better with the hand sanitizer, but I found that they only work while the alcohol is on your skin and that means they are good for about three seconds and then I am contaminated if I touch something.

Fear not!   We have something that works!   OK, my wife found something that works and works well.  My wife tells me it kills all the germs (including bird flu and MRSA) it comes into contact and will last on my hands for three hours – not three seconds.  It also doesn’t burn if I have a cut or scrape and my wife tells me it is actually good for my hands.  As for the hose bib and other surfaces, they also have a long lasting surface spray.  I know I am sounding like an advertisement but this stuff works and if you are looking for a way to avoid getting ill while you enjoy your RV I highly recommend it.  The stuff is called PureWorks.  It costs a little more, but why pay for 3 seconds when you can get 3 hours of protection.

They also have a surface sanitizer for spraying your hose bid and hose ends before you use them!  These are great things to put in your RV to use when setting up and packing up - particularly when you are using the dump station.

Antibacterial Foam

Softens and conditions the skin while providing hours of lasting protection against bacteria and harmful germs that cause illness.

These non-toxic, alcohol-free products exhibit exceptional antibacterial activity. They are gentle to the skin and do not sting or irritate when used to clean and treat minor cuts and scrapes. In fact, both of these products comply with or exceed all requirements set forth by the US Food and Drug Administration for antibacterial first aid antiseptics. PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam and Spray help protect against bacterial contamination and help guard against the risk of infection.

The active ingredient in both the foam and the lotion is benzethonium chloride, recognized world-wide as a safe and effective antimicrobial compound. This “fourth-generation” quaternary ammonium compound is gentle to the skin while being tough on bacteria. Unlike many of the alcohol-based hand sanitizers on the market today, PureWorks’ Antibacterial Foam and Antibacterial Spray.

One Squirt usually does the job and each ounce provides about 100 squirts!

Antibacterial Soap

Removes grit and grime that naturally accumulate on the skin, while killing 99.9% of bacteria and other harmful germs that can cause illness and infection.

  • Kills 99.9% of bacteria and other harmful germs that can cause illness and infection.
  • FDA compliant as as an antibacterial soap.
  • Contains no alcohol, pesticides, or antibiotics.
  • Helps moisturize, condition, and heal skin.
  • Excellent cleansing action.
  • Soft, luxurious foam that works in concert with other PureWorks skincare products.

Designed to be used as a traditional foaming soap, it is applied to wetted hands and forearms to scrub the hands, and rinsed away under running water. It is an excellent cleanser, removing grit and grim that naturally accumulates on the skin.

The unique formulation of this skin cleanser makes it very different from traditional soaps. Most soaps contain negatively-charged or “anionic” detergents. PureWorks’ Antibacterial Soap contains positively-charged quaternary ammonium compounds. Because of this fact, this soap can be called an “invert soap.” It is so different from most traditional soaps, that a person can often feel the difference as soon as they use it the first time. The soft, smooth feeling of the foam feels luxurious as it spreads across the skin. A rich, abundant, lathering foam facilitates the washing process and rinses away easily.

The extra antibacterial activity is an added benefit to this “invert” soap. It effectively kills and removes bacteria from the skin. As is the case for all antibacterial soaps, the US Food and Drug Administration classifies them as “over-the-counter” drug products. PureWorks’ Antibacterial Soap also complies with current FDA regulations.

  • Unlike most antibacterial soaps that only work while you are using them this product will continue to work for up to 3 hours!
